10 years at AAC walk!

To mark my 10th anniversary of working for Action Against Cancer, I did a 12 mile fundraising walk in the Lincolnshire Wolds!

It is an honour to work for this amazing charity and to hear first-hand from the scientists how they are making incredible discoveries in their cutting-edge research.

In the last decade there have been many important breakthroughs funded by Action Against Cancer (AAC) in the laboratories at Imperial College London, the University of Sussex and Anglia University Cambridge.

It is a pleasure to work with the wonderful fundraisers and donors who support this inspiring work. There have been so many lovely people and organisations over the years who have worked hard to fundraise for the research, including folks who have walked, run and cycled hundreds of miles, sold gorgeous things, organised music festivals, half-marathons Movable Feasts!

Over the years family and friends have asked me what makes AAC different from other cancer charities. I am proud to say that we are different because lacking bureaucracy means we can support innovative new scientific research quickly, providing crucial seed funding to projects that could not secure support from other sources. Larger funders require existing data before providing finance for experiments, and this does not allow for brand new ideas - AAC fills this gap.

This fast-moving approach has been shown to work, with the discovery of a cancer-causing gene, and the identification of important molecules that suppress tumours and decrease the spread of certain cancer cells and much more.

This was more than enough motivation to keep me walking 12 miles in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds on a sunny day in the summer of 2025. Morale was also boosted by two ice cream stops along the route!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of my loved ones who supported my challenge, raising £1,500, and everyone involved with Action Against Cancer. It is a privilege and pleasure to work for this fantastic charity.
