Prof's epic fundraiser!

We are absolutely thrilled that Professor Georgios Giamas is supporting us with his "LMTK3 cancer fundraising challenge"!

One of the first things that Action Against Cancer funded after the charity was established in 2011, was Georgios’ discovery of the cancer causing gene LMTK3. Since then we have been proud to support his ongoing research into developing a pioneering drug to overcome the gene.

Now Georgios is using the number of amino acids in LMTK3 (1,489) as the basis of his epic fundraiser. Over three months he will:

* run 148.9km (around 3.5 marathons!)

* do 1,489 minutes of HIIT routines

* do 1,489 minutes of sit-ups

* and every month, do 1,489 push-ups!

Isn't this amazing! Read more and please support him in this incredible challenge.

So not only is Georgios is working to develop a groundbreaking anti-cancer drug (read more about that here). He is also doing this incredible exercise challenge to support our life-saving research!

We will post regular training updates on this page and on our social media channels. Anything you can donate towards his fundraising total will be hugely appreciated. Please click here to go to Georgios’ LMTK3 cancer challenge fundraising page.

Thank you very much 🙂

He's done it, Georgios has successfully completed his super ambitious challenge in the time he set himself, and we couldn't be more proud! We're delighted to pass on this message to you from him: 'Thank you all for your support and sponsorship! Despite some challenging days in the last 3 months, I don't regret at all taking on this challenge. I’ll take a couple of weeks off exercise though now!' We are incredibly grateful to our very own superhero and to all those who have kindly donated on his page. There is still time if you would like to add to Georgios' total here. Thank you very much.

He's on the home stretch now, this is the last update before the finish line at the end of this month, and Georgios is still ahead of his targets - despite having to run in Storm Darcy's heavy snowfalls and gale-force winds! Nothing can stop this man when he sets his mind to a challenge. Watch out cancer, he's got you in his sights! Please help Georgios in this last leg to try and reach his fundraising target for Action Against Cancer here. Thank you very much.

Nothing can stop Georgios in his challenge, not snow or even a national lockdown! His relentless commitment to fulfilling his ambitious training plan has seen him out running in the freezing cold, and doing his sit-ups, push-ups and HIIT workouts at home in between working on his scientific research. We are no longer surprised that our own superhero is smashing his exercise targets! Georgios is working incredibly hard, please do support him if you can in his quest to raise funds for Action Against Cancer by clicking on his fundraising page here.

It has been a particularly busy couple of weeks to start the year in the lab for Georgios and his team of scientists, working hard to develop a pioneering new cancer drug. You can read more about that programme here. However, Georgios has been determined to meet his exercise targets too in his mission to fundraise for Action Against Cancer. What a star! As shown in the charts, about halfway into the challenge and he is ahead of schedule in all of the areas - wow! If you can, please support him in his superhuman efforts and click on his fundraising page here.

Four weeks into his big challenge, Georgios has not let the festive season or a cold put him off track. Despite much sneezing and coughing he has still been completing his training! As you can see in these charts, Georgios is smashing his push ups and HIIT workouts targets. One third of the way into the three month challenge, he is also right on track for running and sit-ups. Way to go Georgios! Fundraising has slowed somewhat, and so please do support him if you can. Thank you so much. Click on his fundraising page here.

Two weeks ago today Georgios launched his supercharged challenge and he has already made incredible progress. As you can see in the charts he has sent through here (he is a scientist after all!), Georgios has achieved approximately 1/5 of his ambitious target exercise list in only 1/6 of the time! Very impressive. He has also raised almost 1/5 of his amazing £10,000 fundraising target. Go Georgios! Please do support him to help him reach his goal by clicking on his fundraising page here.
