Our Story

Message from our Chairwoman - Hilary Craft OBE

My own turbulent experience with cancer inspired me to establish Action Against Cancer. Following my original diagnosis of breast cancer in 1998, I have suffered with leukaemia, lung cancer, metastatic breast cancer and a brain tumour. On bad days, what motivates me to keep smiling is knowing that I am playing my part in an amazing story – helping scientists do incredible work in the laboratory, developing cures for cancer.

Action Against Cancer funds cutting-edge research projects that aim high. Much of this groundbreaking work examines aspects of cancer never explored in the same way before. The purpose of the research is to improve diagnostics and treatments for millions of patients worldwide – to save lives. There have been numerous important discoveries made already funded by Action Against Cancer, including a gene that causes cancer, and molecules that suppress tumours, and stop cells multiplying and spreading.

Our focus is on funding this pioneering research, and with this clear purpose the charity is run efficiently, with low overheads and bureaucracy. The committed support of fundraisers and donors has meant that big steps have been taken. We are all hugely grateful to everyone who gets involved.

Together we are taking Action Against Cancer.

Many thanks and much love

Hilary
