Stewart's Half Marathon Challenge

My auntie has battled stoically with cancer for a number of years now. I wanted to do something to show my support to her whilst helping to support the leading lights in cancer medicine in their development of new treatments for cancer sufferers worldwide.

I am not a natural sportsman and always got picked last at school sports, so I thought a sponsored run would be a great way to challenge myself! I had always wanted to run the Walt Disney World Half Marathon in Orlando. I spent 5 months training for the 13.1mile run, running 4 times a week to bring my fitness up to standard. Both the run itself and the fundraising were hugely successful. I was pleased simply to finish the race but to finish well up in the field gave me a real boost. I was running for my auntie – she is a fighter so I am glad to have put in a strong performance for her.

I was also able to raise over £1000 for Action Against Cancer which I am really proud of. I kept a running blog which my friends and family all read. This helped to motivate them to donate as they could see how hard I was working to be ready for the run and read about why I was running for Action Against Cancer. I am glad that I don't have to train quite so hard now but I'm still running and I have notice considerable improvements to my health and fitness. I am so proud to have completed my challenge and to have raised so much for such a wonderful cause.
